07.10.2022 Şanlıurfa City Hospital Construction Site Visit

A visit has been held to Şanlıurfa City Hospital Construction Site. The application of seismic isolators has been investigated at the site. P.E. Fevzi Tanrıöven has informed our team on behalf of the contractor company, YDA.

09.05.2022 Seminar on Zoning Law

A seminar on Zoning Law will be presented by M.Sc. Geomatics Engineer M.Aziz Sayar on 9 May 2022. The seminar will be held at 16:00 Civil Engineering Building, Class İM-6.

30.03.2022 Site Visit to Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality Asphalt Plant and Gürbağ Concrete Plant
A technical visit was organized - by the efforts of our faculty member Prof.Dr. Ali SARIŞIK - to Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality Asphalt Plant and Gürbağ Concrete Plant within the scope of the Road Materials course on 30.03.2022.
 
M.Sc.Eng. Fatih Karataş, – a Ph.D. candidate in our department - accompanied our group during the Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality Asphalt Plant. In Gürbağ Concrete Plant, M.Sc.Eng. Ahmet SERT – a Ph.D. candidate in our department - gave information to our students about the work done at the plant.
 
At Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality Asphalt Plant, our students got detailed information about the dimensions of road materials and sieve analysis. In addition, the engineers at the construction site introduced asphalt materials to the students and shared their experiences on how to store these materials. During the trip, the students were introduced to the laboratories and it was shown which tests were applied to these materials.
 
In Gürbağ Concrete Plant, prefabricated reinforced concrete elements were introduced to the students, and the application of the elements in the projects, which boundary conditions they had, and which points should be considered during the design and application stages were mentioned. Our students, who had the chance to examine the laboratory of the plant, had the chance to observe how the clay content in the fine aggregate could be revealed with the methylene blue experiment. Furthermore, the students were informed about the compressive strength of concrete by performing the compression test. Important information about the curing of concrete was given to the students and the group visited the curing pools. The molds - in which the prepared concrete was poured - were also shown to the students and the details of the application of the prefabricated building elements were mentioned.
 
Through this trip, our students got detailed information about both road materials and prefabricated reinforced concrete elements and examined the production line. This trip, besides the technical knowledge, provided our students to observe the industry and created a network among the alumni of the department and students.

26.04.2019 Trivia

A trivia among the civil engineering department students was held in the engineering faculty building. The trivia program consisted of 3 qualifying rounds and a final round. The team named “Men of Steel” won the trivia. All teams were awarded at the end of the event.

Civil Engineering Department Graduation Ceremony

The graduation ceremony for the Civil Engineering Department 2016-2017 Academic Year was held in Engineering Faculty Building. Prof. Dr. Ramazan TAŞALTIN (Rector of our university), Prof. Dr. Ali SARIIŞIK (Vice-rector), Prof. Dr. Murat KISA (Dean of engineering faculty), faculty members, guests from the government agencies, and families of our students were attended to the ceremony. The ceremony started with the national anthem and one minute’s silence and continued with the speech of the valedictorian for each department. Then, the rector gave his speech to the families stating that: “The university took special care of each student like his own children. Now those students have become well-educated engineers and we are proud of our role in this.”
The ceremony lasted for 2 hours and ended by presenting the diploma to the graduated students.

28.04.2017 Site Visit to DSİ Ataturk Dam and DSİ Urfa Bozova PS1-2 Pumping Station

A site visit was organized by the efforts of faculty members (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kasım YENİGÜN and Asst. Prof. Dr. Reşit GERGER) to DSİ Ataturk Dam within the scope of the courses Dams and Hydraulic Structures II.
The students were informed by the experienced engineers and personnel of DSİ about the dam. Then, the students investigated the all elements and sub-structures of the dam related to the courses. The site visit continued with DSİ – Urfa Bozova PS1-2 Pumping Station. In the station, modern pumping machines are introduced to the students.

31.12.2015  Site Visit to Limak Şanlıurfa Cement Plant
A site visit was organized with 30 students - by the efforts of our faculty member Prof.Dr. Ali SARIŞIK - to Limak Şanlıurfa Cement Plant within the scope of the Material Science course which is given in the 3^rd semester. Our group was accompanied by Production Engineer Samet SÖZAL, Environmental Engineer and Occupational Safety Manager Sercan AYGÜLER, and Furkan Bulut from the H.R. Department of the company.  
The students were informed about the cement types, raw materials used in the cement production, assessment of the chemicals used in the cement production, and converting by-products in the cement production into the raw material for other industries.  
Prof. Dr. Ali SARIIŞIK stated about the visit: “We invited Limak Şanlıurfa Cement officials to our university by mentioning that we should act in cooperation. I present my thanks to General Manager Alican MARANGOZ, Vice-Manager Uğur ÇALI, and all of the personnel of the company for their hospitality during the visit. I hope that the trip will set an example for other companies that have proven themselves in the construction industry, as well as the cooperation in such activities aimed at providing professional skills to our young engineer candidates.”

10.12.2015 Site Visit to İskenderun Steel Production Company

A site visit was organized by the efforts of faculty members (Prof. Dr. Ali SARIIŞIK, Prof. Dr. M. Arif GÜREL, and Asst. Prof. Recep Kadir PEKGÖKGÖZ) to İskenderun Steel Production Company in order to improve knowledge of students by demonstrating the production of steel on the plant. 25 students attended the site visit.
